Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States including Rhode Island, is coming up this Sunday, June 19th. We at FSRI want to do our part to educate and share the history of Juneteenth and what it represents.
Combining the words “June” and “nineteenth,” Juneteenth (also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day), dates back over a century and is an important time to reflect on the history of slavery in our country, pay tribute to the lives of enslaved people, and honor the resilience and contributions of black communities.
FSRI is committed to promoting equity and justice, both within our organization and in the communities we serve. On June 20th, FSRI will be closed, and we are encouraging our team members to attend events in our community.
